After a traumatic incident during his residency, young medical student James Heyman (Namir Smallwood) is transferred to a rural hospital to start over. Noticing that James is struggling and has trouble communicating with patients, Dr. Harrison (veteran stage and film actor Michael Potts) suggests he enroll in a course on bedside manners and building deeper relationships with patients. Demons from James’ past begin to catch up when he finds himself absorbed in the case of a young asthmatic patient (Sidney Flanigan, NEVER Rarely Ever Ever) with mysterious symptoms. His connection to reality begins to fade as his disturbing nightmares, anxiety-fueled assumptions, and physical injuries collide with the harsh realities of the medical world. In his follow-up to SAINT FRANCES – and predecessor to GHOSTLIGHT – director Alex Thompson assembles a strong ensemble of seasoned character actors in this humanistic and unconventional vision of the genre.
