Writer Gary Dauberman told Den of Geek in June 2019 that his goal with the Salem’s Lot remake is to make vampires scary again

Plot

The author returns to his hometown of Jerusalem’s Lot for inspiration for his next book, only to find the town’s residents under attack by a bloodthirsty vampire. He wants to get away from the sexier, more romanticized walking dead that have plagued pop culture for the better part of the last quarter-century, thanks to everything from Interview with the Vampire to Twilight to The Vampire Diaries. When Ben is reading old newspapers on microfilm at the library, the headline reads “Local Couple DUI Victims.” The newspaper is supposedly from 1956, when the term “DUI” was not yet in use. This was an acceptable movie

You could get to know the characters better that way. You would have been more interested in the story and lore.

Was it perfect?

I thought the actors did a good job with what they were given. Considering the brevity of the movie, all the main characters did a good job of conveying their characters’ motivations. The characters in the story are good. I loved the teacher, as well as the two main characters and the little boy who showed no fear.

​​No. But. The effects were well done. Although they should have waited until later in the story for the big reveal.

This should have been a miniseries
