Original stories set in the world of iconic video games are featured in this animated anthology series. Video games have made the leap to the screen in a big way, and we’re celebrating the genre with a closer look at over 50 video game adaptations in movies and shows. Clive Standen will reprise his voice role as Demetrius Titus, the title character in the video game Space Marine 2.
The range of titles is bewildering
A few great episodes aside, Secret Level feels like a monument to mediocrity. The writing is painfully middle-of-the-road, dragging the entire show down, despite the undeniably impressive visuals – though even those feel like reheated leftovers from a decade of superior video game cinema. Honestly, what is this show trying to do or say that hasn’t been done (and done better) by video game marketing over the past 10+ years?
Spoiler alert—it didn’t
Where are the big names? The absence of heavy hitters screams one thing: the developers either didn’t want to be a part of this train wreck or were waiting to see if Season 1 could stick the landing. The storytelling in short seems to completely elude the creators.
What should have been tight, impactful, and memorable feels disjointed and uninspired
Variety called it an “uninspired postponement”; and for once, Variety wasn’t harsh enough. The secret level is proof that flashy visuals can’t hide a lack of vision, heart, or originality! “One Hundred Years of Solitude” is one of the biggest TV and streaming premieres this month.
