The show moves the setting to the present era

Plot

Jackal is a tough assassin who makes his living by making hits with the highest payout. He soon meets his match in a tenacious British intelligence officer who tracks him down in an exciting cat-and-mouse chase across Europe. The novel “Day of the Jackal” was set in 1963 and involved the assassination attempt of the then French President Charles de Gaulle.

I love what they have tried to do

Remake of the movie The Day of the Jackal (1973). How does an assassin remain anonymous and untraceable in today’s world of security cameras, camera phones and social media, the internet and facial recognition, communication surveillance, digital transactions, etc. etc.

Every episode has a lot to like

The attempt is imperfect, but name me a show or movie that’s successful and I’ll watch it right away. However, the telling of the central story is interrupted by the family drama of the M16 agent, which seems like a filler brought in to fill out the formulaic script “principle”. I skip these unnecessary scenes to keep the main story lines moving.

And I’ll watch anything with Charles Dance

I’m halfway through episode 4 and appreciate the effort and purpose. Also, I love the neckerchief nod to the original movie and the sniper rifle update – suspension of disbelief up to 11 that this will pass airport x-ray screening, not to mention the magical silencer for supersonic rounds and no one’s ability to smell a recently used firearm 🙂 Shhh…don’t mention the bullets. Imperfect anyway, but I’ll watch to the end and appreciate the effort and interest in their choices to tell a compelling story.
